A patio, a railing, and stone under the oaks
A back yard rebuilt around mature oaks: a curved poured patio with custom steel railing, flagstone paths, and stone throughout.

On the ground in Kissing Tree, San Marcos.
The oaks were the reason for every decision here. They stay, so the patio is curved to clear them, the paths bend around them, and each one sits in its own edged well rather than in a lawn that would need watering to survive underneath.
The patio is poured to a curve and finished with a custom steel railing, which is what makes it read as part of the house instead of a slab added to the back of it.
- Poured concrete patio with a curved leading edge
- Custom black steel railing with cable infill
- Flagstone stepping paths set through gravel
- Limestone block edging throughout
- Edged tree wells built around the mature oaks
- Ornamental grasses and container planting
