A full front-yard conversion from turf to a banded stone xeriscape, photographed from layout through the finished result.

On the ground in Kissing Tree, San Marcos.
The whole front yard came out. What replaced it is not a rock yard, it is a drawn one: two stone colors run in curved bands, with the existing trees and shrubs kept and worked around rather than cleared.
The layout was marked out and laid over barrier fabric before a single stone was placed, which is the difference between a design and a pile of gravel.
- Existing turf removed across the full front yard
- Bed layout marked and set out over weed barrier
- Steel edging defining every band and the drive line
- Black basalt and tan river rock laid in contrasting bands
- Feature boulders set into the stone
- Existing trees and shrubs retained and worked around
